Oído de nadador crónico - Treatment

Infección crónica del oído externo; Otitis externa crónica

Tratamiento:

El objetivo es curar la infección, usualmente con gotas óticas que contienen antibióticos.

Otros tratamientos abarcan:

  • Corticoesteroides para reducir el prurito y la inflamación
  • Paracetamol (Tylenol) o ibuprofeno (Advil, Motrin) para ayudar a aliviar el dolor
  • Gotas de vinagre (ácido acético)

Si el conducto auditivo externo presenta mucha inflamación, se puede colocar una mota en el oído para facilitar el desplazamiento de las gotas hasta el fondo del mismo.

En personas de edad o en diabéticos con dolor de oído o supuración persistentes, la posibilidad es que sea una otitis externa maligna, la cual se trata con altas dosis de antibióticos administrados por vía intravenosa.

Expectativas (pronóstico):

El oído de nadador crónico usualmente responde de manera positiva al tratamiento que puede ser prolongado o repetitivo. Si esta enfermedad no se trata, se pueden presentar complicaciones.

Complicaciones:

  • Infección de la piel circundante
  • Otitis externa maligna que puede causar infección ósea, ronquera y dificultad para tragar

  • La otitis externa aguda no responde al tratamiento
