Infección por VIH sin síntomas

Definición:

Es una fase de infección crónica con el virus de la inmunodeficiencia humana (VIH) durante la cual no hay síntomas de infección por VIH.

Causas, incidencia y factores de riesgo:

La infección por VIH asintomática es un período de tiempo variable en el cual hay un lento deterioro del sistema inmunitario, sin que se presenten síntomas.

La duración de esta fase varía de una persona a otra. Depende de qué tan rápido se esté copiando el virus del VIH a sí mismo y de las diferencias genéticas que afectan la forma como el sistema inmunitario maneja el virus.

Algunas personas pueden pasar 10 años o más sin síntomas, mientras que otras pueden tener síntomas y empeoramiento de la función inmunitaria al cabo de unos pocos años después de la infección original.
