Síntomas:

Entre algunos de los síntomas se encuentra la visión doble al mirar hacia un lado (lesión unilateral) y también se puede presentar dolor o cefalea.

Signos y exámenes:

Los exámenes particularmente muestran que un ojo tiene dificultad para mirar lateralmente, mientras que el otro ojo se mueve normalmente. Una evaluación muestra que los ojos no se alinean, ya sea en reposo o al mirar en la dirección del ojo débil.

El doctor llevará a cabo un examen médico y neurológico completo para determinar si existen otras partes del sistema nervioso afectadas. Dependiendo de la causa que se sospeche, es posible que el paciente necesite exámenes de sangre, un estudio imagenológico de la cabeza (como una IRM o una TC), y posiblemente una punción lumbar (punción de la columna).
