Tratamiento:

Si el médico identifica una causa, los síntomas se pueden tratar y aliviar con corticosteroides para reducir la inflamación y aliviar la presión sobre el nervio. Algunas veces, esta afección puede desaparecer sin tratamiento. Asimismo, un estricto control de los niveles de azúcar en la sangre en los diabéticos podría ayudarles.

La colocación de un parche en el ojo puede aliviar la visión doble hasta que el nervio se cure.

Expectativas (pronóstico):

El tratamiento de la causa subyacente puede mejorar la afección, aunque este mejoramiento se puede dar incluso si nunca se determina la causa.

Complicaciones:

Las complicaciones pueden abarcar cambios permanentes en la visión.
