Tratamiento:

No existe cura conocida para la distrofia muscular facioescapulohumeral y los tratamientos se administran para controlar los síntomas y mejorar la calidad de vida. Se recomienda fomentar la actividad, ya que la inactividad, como permanecer en cama, puede empeorar la enfermedad muscular. También la fisioterapia puede ayudar a mantener la fuerza muscular.

Expectativas (pronóstico):

La discapacidad con frecuencia es menor y el período de vida generalmente no resulta afectado.

Complicaciones:

Disminución de la movilidad
Disminución de la capacidad para cuidar de sí mismo
Deformidades de la cara y los hombros
Hipoacusia
Pérdida de la visión (poco común)

Situaciones que requieren asistencia médica:

Se debe consultar con el médico si se presentan síntomas de esta afección.

Se recomienda la asesoría genética para las parejas con antecedentes familiares de esta afección que deseen tener hijos.
