Síntomas:

Los síntomas pueden abarcar:

  • Debilidad o pérdida del movimiento que puede ser más o menos severo, incluyendo:
    • dificultad para masticar
    • dificultad para subir escalas
    • dificultad para levantar objetos
    • dificultad para hablar
    • cabeza caída
    • necesidad de usar las manos para incorporarse de una posición sentada o acostada
  • Dificultad para deglutir, arcadas o asfixia
  • Cambios visuales como:

Generalmente se presentan síntomas relacionados con el sistema nervioso autónomo e incluyen:

  • Cambios en la presión arterial
  • Mareo al pararse
  • Resequedad en la boca

Signos y exámenes:

Se elaborará una historia clínica detallada para determinar los factores de riesgo, como antecedentes de ciertos cánceres.

Un examen físico muestra:

  • Disminución en los reflejos
  • Posible pérdida de tejido muscular
  • Debilidad o parálisis que mejora ligeramente con la actividad
