Hemorragia intracerebral hipertensiva

La hemorragia intracerebral hipertensiva es un tipo de accidente cerebrovascular que implica sangrado en el cerebro, causado por presión arterial alta. Ver también:

La hemorragia intracerebral puede afectar a cualquier persona, pero es más común en individuos de edad avanzada.
La hemorragia intracerebral hipertensiva es causada por efectos de la presión arterial alta (hipertensión) prolongada. Cuando la presión arterial ha permanecido alta por un perÃodo significativo de tiempo, las paredes de los vasos sanguÃneos cambian. La presión arterial alta y constante desgasta las paredes vasculares y puede llevar a que se presente obstrucción de los vasos y filtración de sangre al cerebro. La sangre irrita los tejidos cerebrales, causando hinchazón (edema cerebral), y se acumula en una masa llamada hematoma.
El edema del tejido cerebral y un hematoma intracerebral ejercen mayor presión sobre el cerebro y finalmente pueden destruirlo.
El sangrado puede ocurrir en los espacios huecos (ventrÃculos) en la parte central del cerebro o dentro del espacio subaracnoideo (el espacio entre el cerebro y las membranas que lo cubren). Este sangrado también puede causar sÃntomas de meningitis .
Sin embargo, aún en pacientes sin presión arterial alta conocida, la cocaÃna puede causar hemorragia intracerebral.
