Síndrome de Parinaud

Definición:

Es un problema ocular, similar a la conjuntivitis ("ojo rojo"), que generalmente afecta sólo a un ojo y se presenta acompañado por inflamación de los ganglios linfáticos circundantes y enfermedad con fiebre.

Síndrome oculoglandular; Síndrome del mesencéfalo dorsal

Causas, incidencia y factores de riesgo:

Muchas infecciones diferentes pueden causar este síndrome, incluyendo bacterias, virus, hongos y parásitos.

Las causas más comunes son tularemia (fiebre de los conejos) y la fiebre por arañazo de gato. La primera puede infectar el ojo ya sea por inoculación directa de la bacteria en el ojo (con el dedo o un objeto) o por diseminación de la bacteria en el aire para luego llegar al ojo. Otras enfermedades infecciosas se pueden diseminar ya sea a través de estos mecanismos e igualmente a través del torrente sanguíneo al ojo.
