Accidente cerebrovascular secundario a la estenosis de la carótida
Prevención:
Se debe tratar la hipertensión arterial, la diabetes, la cardiopatÃa y otros factores de riesgo, al igual que dejar de fumar en caso de hacerlo.
El tratamiento para el AIT (ataque isquémico transitorio, "accidentes cerebrovasculares de advertencia") puede prevenir futuros accidentes cerebrovasculares.
La terapia con aspirina (81 mg al dÃa o 100 mg cada dos dÃas) actualmente se recomienda para la prevención de accidente cerebrovascular en mujeres menores de 65 años, en tanto los beneficios superen los riesgos. Dicha terapia se debe considerar en mujeres de más de 65 años únicamente si su presión arterial está controlada y si el beneficio es mayor al riesgo de sangrado gastrointestinal y hemorragia cerebral .
