Síntomas:

Los síntomas del parkinsonismo pueden comprender:

Disminución en la expresión facial
Dificultad para comenzar y controlar el movimiento
Voz suave
Algunos tipos de parálisis
Rigidez del tronco, los brazos o las piernas
Temblor

Aunque los problemas cognitivos no son comunes en el mal de Parkinson, pueden ser más probables en el parkinsonismo secundario. Esto se debe a que las enfermedades que causan este último con mucha frecuencia llevan a que se presente demencia.

Pruebas y exámenes:

El médico puede diagnosticar el parkinsonismo secundario con base en su historia clínica, los síntomas que se presentan y el examen físico. Sin embargo, los síntomas pueden ser difíciles de evaluar particularmente en los ancianos.

El examen puede mostrar:

Dificultad para iniciar o suspender los movimientos voluntarios
Aumento del tono muscular
Problemas con la postura
Marcha lenta y lerda
Temblores de tipo Parkinson

Los reflejos generalmente son normales.

Los exámenes generalmente no son específicos para el parkinsonismo secundario, pero se pueden utilizar para confirmar o descartar otros trastornos que pueden ocasionar síntomas similares.
