Parálisis de Bell - Overview

Definición:

La parálisis facial es un trastorno del nervio que controla el movimiento de los músculos en la cara.

El daño a este nervio causa debilidad o parálisis de estos músculos. Párálisis significa que usted no puede usar los músculos en absoluto.

Causas, incidencia y factores de riesgo:

La parálisis de Bell afecta a aproximadamente 30,000 a 40,000 personas cada año en los Estados Unidos.

La parálisis de Bell implica daño al séptimo par craneal (facial), el nervio que controla el movimiento de los músculos de la cara.

Se piensa que la parálisis de Bell se debe a la hinchazón (inflamación) de este nervio en el área donde atraviesa los huesos del cráneo.

La causa a menudo no es clara. Un tipo de infección por herpes llamada herpes zóster podría estar relacionada. Otras afecciones que pueden causar la parálisis de Bell abarcan:
