Prevención:

Lo siguiente puede ayudar a prevenir un accidente cerebrovascular:

  • Evite los alimentos grasos. Siga una dieta saludable y baja en grasa.
  • No beba más de 1 a 2 bebidas alcohólicas al día.
  • Haga ejercicio de manera regular: 30 minutos por día si no tiene sobrepeso; 60 a 90 minutos por día si tiene sobrepeso.
  • Deje de fumar.
  • Hágase revisar la presión arterial cada 1 a 2 años, sobre todo si tiene antecedentes familiares de hipertensión arterial. Si padece hipertensión arterial, cardiopatía o ha tenido un accidente cerebrovascular, necesita hacerse chequeos con más frecuencia. Pregúntele al médico.
  • La mayoría de las personas deben tener como meta una presión arterial por debajo de 120-130/80 mmHg. Si usted padece diabetes o ha tenido un accidente cerebrovascular, el médico puede decirle que procure lograr una presión arterial más baja.
  • Los adultos deben hacerse revisar el colesterol cada 5 años y recibir tratamiento, de ser necesario. Si usted ha recibido tratamiento para el colesterol alto, necesitará hacerse chequeos con más frecuencia.
  • Si tiene diabetes, cardiopatía o endurecimiento de las arterias, su colesterol LDL "malo" debe estar por debajo de 70 mg/dL.
  • Siga las recomendaciones de tratamiento del médico si tiene hipertensión arterial, diabetes, colesterol alto y cardiopatía.
