Definición:

Es un trastorno del sistema nervioso en el cual un nervio dañado en el cráneo afecta el movimiento de los músculos de la cara.

La parálisis del nervio facial, un tipo de mononeuropatía , ocurre cuando hay daño al VII nervio craneal (nervio facial). El séptimo nervio facial está localizado en el cráneo y controla el movimiento de los músculos de la cara. Este nervio también afecta la sensibilidad en el conducto auditivo externo y el sentido del gusto.

Este tipo de daño nervioso puede ocurrir con neoplasias locales, como un tumor, que ejerce presión sobre el nervio facial.
