Definición:

Es alguien que duerme mucho menos en un período de 24 horas de lo que se espera para otras personas de su misma edad, sin estar anormalmente soñoliento.

Causas, incidencia y factores de riesgo:

Aunque la necesidad de cada persona con respecto al sueño varía, el adulto normal requiere un promedio de 7 a 9 horas de sueño cada noche. Las personas de sueño corto duermen menos del 75% de lo que es normal para su edad.

Las personas que duermen poco por naturaleza son diferentes de las personas que crónicamente no duermen lo suficiente por razón de su trabajo o las exigencias de la familia, o que padecen afecciones que les interrumpen el sueño.
