Melasma
Definición:
Es una coloración oscura de la piel que se encuentra en áreas de la cara expuestas al sol.

Causas, incidencia y factores de riesgo:
El melasma es un trastorno muy común en la piel y aunque puede afectar a cualquier persona, se presenta con mayor frecuencia en mujeres jóvenes con tonos de piel canela.
El melasma se asocia a menudo con las hormonas femeninas estrógenos y progesterona y es especialmente común en mujeres embarazadas, entre aquellas que están tomando anticonceptivos orales ("la pÃldora") y entre las que se someten a la terapia de reemplazo hormonal durante la menopausia.
La exposición al sol también es un factor de riesgo fuerte para desarrollar melasma, el cual es particularmente común en los climas tropicales.
