Puesto que el piojo del cuerpo habita principalmente en la ropa, es muy importante la destrucción o lavado cuidadoso de las prendas infectadas. Además, el médico puede prescribir una crema o champú.

Expectativas (pronóstico):

Los piojos se pueden eliminar por completo con un tratamiento adecuado.

Complicaciones:

Una infección secundaria de la piel al rascarse
Propagar piojos a los demás

Ocasionalmente, el piojo del cuerpo puede ser portador de enfermedades raras como borreliosis o fiebre quintana.

Situaciones que requieren asistencia médica:

Se debe buscar atención médica si se detectan piojos en la ropa o si se sufre de picaduras que provocan prurito en forma persistente.
