Dermatomiositis

Definición:

Es una enfermedad muscular (un tipo de miopatía inflamatoria) que causa inflamación y una erupción en la piel.

Causas, incidencia y factores de riesgo:

La causa se desconoce, pero los expertos creen que puede deberse a una infección viral de los músculos o a un problema con el sistema inmunitario del cuerpo.

Cualquier persona puede desarrollar dermatomiositis, pero es más común en niños entre los 5 y los 15 años y adultos entre 40 y 60 años. Las mujeres la desarrollan con mayor frecuencia que los hombres.

La polimiositis es una afección similar, pero los síntomas se presentan sin erupciones cutáneas.
