Acantosis pigmentaria
Definición:
Es un trastorno cutáneo, también conocido como acantosis nigricans, que se caracteriza por la piel oscura, gruesa y aterciopelada en las áreas flexibles y pliegues del cuerpo.
Causas, incidencia y factores de riesgo:
La acantosis pigmentaria puede afectar a personas que a excepción de esto son sanas o puede estar asociada con otros problemas de salud. Algunos casos se dan por herencia genética y es muy común en personas de ascendencia africana.
La obesidad, al igual que muchos trastornos endocrinos, puede conducir a acantosis pigmentaria y con frecuencia se encuentra en personas con diabetes .
Algunas drogas, en particular la hormona del crecimiento humano o los anticonceptivos orales (la "pÃldora"), también la pueden causar.
Las personas con linfoma o cáncer en las vÃas genitourinarias y gastrointestinales también pueden desarrollar casos severos de esta afección.
