Definición:

Es una acumulación de pus y de material infectado dentro o sobre la piel.

Causas, incidencia y factores de riesgo:

Los abscesos cutáneos son bastante comunes. Se presentan cuando una infección provoca la acumulación de pus y de material infectado en la piel.

Los abscesos cutáneos se pueden presentar después de:

Una infección bacteriana (a menudo estafilococo)
Una herida o lesión menor
Forúnculos
Foliculitis

Los abscesos cutáneos pueden aparecer en cualquier lugar del cuerpo y afectan a personas de todas las edades.
