El diagnóstico se basa principalmente en los síntomas y en la apariencia de la piel después de que la persona toma cierto medicamento o se expone a una sustancia extraña ( antígeno ).

Los resultados de la ESR (tasa de sedimentación eritrocítica) pueden ser altos y una biopsia de piel muestra inflamación de los vasos sanguíneos.
