Definición:

Es una infección cutánea debido a hongos. También se denomina tiña (dermatofitosis) del cuerpo.

Causas, incidencia y factores de riesgo:

La tiña corporal es un trastorno común de la piel, especialmente entre los niños, pero puede presentarse en personas de cualquier edad y es causada por hongos de tipo moho llamados dermatofitos.

Los hongos prosperan en áreas cálidas y húmedas. Los siguientes factores aumentan el riesgo de padecer una infección micótica:

Humedad prolongada de la piel (como a causa de sudoración).
Lesiones menores de piel o de uñas.
Higiene deficiente.

La tiña corporal se puede propagar fácilmente a otras personas. Usted puede adquirirla si está en contacto directo con un área de tiña en el cuerpo de alguien más o si toca elementos contaminados como:

Ropa.
Peines.
Superficies de piscinas.
Pisos y paredes de duchas.

Los hongos también se pueden propagar por medio de mascotas: los gatos son los portadores comunes.
