Vaginitis atrófica
Tratamiento:
Se puede recomendar la terapia de reemplazo de estrógenos, los cuales se pueden administrar como cremas o tabletas colocadas dentro de la vagina, como un parche cutáneo o en pastillas.
Es posible que las mujeres quieran analizar con su médico los riesgos y beneficios de la terapia de reemplazo de estrógenos (pastillas).
Un lubricante vaginal hidrosoluble puede ayudar a aliviar el dolor durante la relación sexual.
Expectativas (pronóstico):
El tratamiento apropiado generalmente alivia los sÃntomas.
Complicaciones:
La vaginitis atrófica puede hacer a la mujer más propensa a contraer infecciones vaginales causadas por bacterias u hongos (levaduras).
Esta afección también puede causar úlceras abiertas o fisuras en la pared vaginal.
Situaciones que requieren asistencia médica:
Se debe buscar asistencia médica si se presenta resequedad o dolor vaginal, ardor, picazón o dolor durante la relación sexual que no se alivia con un lubricante hidrosoluble.
