Síntomas:

Si el área del embarazo anormal presenta ruptura y sangra, los síntomas pueden empeorar. Éstos pueden abarcar:

El sangrado interno debido a una ruptura puede llevar a que se presente shock y es el primer síntoma de casi el 20% de los embarazos ectópicos.

Signos y exámenes:

El médico llevará a cabo un examen pélvico que puede mostrar sensibilidad en dicha área. Una prueba de embarazo generalmente es positiva (es decir, dice que la persona está en embarazo).

Los exámenes que se pueden hacer son:

Se puede necesitar una laparoscopia , una laparotomía  o una  dilatación y legrado para confirmar el diagnóstico.

Un embarazo ectópico puede afectar el resultado de un examen de  progesterona en suero .
