Intolerancia a la glucosa durante el embarazo

Definición:

Es la presencia de glucemia alta (diabetes) que empieza o se diagnostica primero durante el embarazo.

Causas:

Las hormonas del embarazo pueden bloquear el trabajo que hace la insulina. Cuando esto sucede, la niveles de glucosa se pueden incrementar en la sangre de una mujer embarazada.

Usted está en mayor riesgo para la diabetes gestacional si:

Tiene más de 25 años al quedar embarazada
Tiene antecedentes familiares de diabetes
Dio a luz a un bebé con un peso por encima de 4 kg (9 lb) o que tuvo un defecto congénito
Presenta azúcar (glucosa) en la orina cuando acude al médico para una consulta prenatal regular
Tiene hipertensión arterial
Tiene demasiado líquido amniótico
Ha tenido un aborto espontáneo o mortinato de manera inexplicable
Tenía sobrepeso antes del embarazo
