Preeclampsia

Definición:

La preeclampsia es el desarrollo de presión sanguínea alta y proteína en la orina después de la semana 20 del embarazo y puede estar asociada con la hinchazón de la cara y las manos.

Causas, incidencia y factores de riesgo:

La causa exacta de la preeclampsia no se conoce. Sin embargo, existen numerosas teorías no comprobadas que comprenden factores genéticos, alimenticios, vasculares (vasos sanguíneos) y autoinmunes.

La preeclampsia se presenta en aproximadamente un 8% del total de los embarazos y hay un incremento en el riesgo asociado con casos de primer embarazo, embarazos múltiples, madres de avanzada edad, mujeres afroamericanas y antecedentes previos de diabetes , hipertensión o enfermedad renal .
