Las relaciones sexuales seguras pueden disminuir el riesgo de cáncer vulvar, lo cual incluye el uso de condones para protegerse contra las enfermedades de transmisión sexual.
Hay disponibilidad de una nueva vacuna para protegerse contra ciertas formas del virus del papiloma humano (VPH). Esta vacuna está aprobada para prevenir el cáncer y precánceres del cuello uterino, pero puede ayudar a prevenir otros cánceres ligados al VPH, como el cáncer vulvar. La vacuna se le aplica a las niñas jóvenes antes de que se vuelvan sexualmente activas.
Los exámenes pélvicos de rutina pueden ayudar a diagnosticar el cáncer vulvar y otros tipos de cáncer en etapa temprana, lo cual mejora el tratamiento.
