Nota: los síntomas pueden fluctuar de leve a severo, se acentúan justo antes de cada período menstrual y desaparecen inmediatamente después del mismo.

Un examen físico revela la presencia de masas mamarias móviles (no adheridas), generalmente redondas con bordes suaves y pueden ser elásticas o un poco fluctuantes (que cambian de forma). La densidad del tejido mamario podría dificultar más la interpretación del examen.
