Trastornos de la personalidad - Treatment

Tratamiento:

Al principio, las personas con estos trastornos usualmente no buscan tratamiento por su cuenta. Ellas tienden a buscar ayuda una vez que su comportamiento ha causado problemas graves en sus relaciones personales o en sus trabajos o cuando les diagnostican otro problema psiquiátrico, como un trastorno del estado anímico o drogadicción.

Aunque lleva tiempo tratar los trastornos de personalidad, hay indicios crecientes de que ciertas formas de psicoterapia pueden ayudar a muchas personas. En algunos casos, los medicamentos pueden ser un complemento útil para la terapia.

Expectativas (pronóstico):

El pronóstico varía. Algunos trastornos de la personalidad desaparecen durante la madurez sin ningún tratamiento, mientras que otros sólo mejoran lentamente a lo largo de la vida, incluso con tratamiento.
