Prevención:

Los programas educativos y las recomendaciones médicas acerca del alcoholismo pueden ayudar a disminuir el consumo de alcohol y sus problemas. La dependencia del alcohol requiere un manejo más intensivo.

El Instituto Nacional de Abuso de Alcohol y Alcoholismo (National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism ) recomienda que las mujeres no tomen más de un trago y los hombres no más de dos tragos por día. Un trago se define como una botella de cerveza de 12 onzas, un vaso de vino de 5 onzas o un trago de licor de 1 1/2 onza.
