Retinopatía hipertensiva - Treatment

Tratamiento:

El único tratamiento para la retinopatía hipertensiva es el control de la presión arterial alta (hipertensión).

Expectativas (pronóstico):

Los pacientes con el grado 4 (retinopatía hipertensiva severa) con frecuencia padecen también complicaciones cardíacas y renales de hipertensión arterial. Igualmente están en mayor riesgo de accidente cerebrovascular.

La retina por lo regular se recuperará si se controla la presión arterial; sin embargo, algunos pacientes con retinopatía hipertensiva grado 4 tendrán daño permanente del nervio óptico o la mácula.

Complicaciones:

Complicaciones asociadas con la hipertensión arterial
Daño irreversible al nervio óptico o a la mácula, ocasionando problemas de visión

Situaciones que requieren asistencia médica:

Acuda a la sala de urgencias o llame al número local de emergencias (911 en los Estados Unidos) si tiene hipertensión arterial y se presentan cambios en la visión o dolores de cabeza.
