Escleritis - Treatment

Inflamación de la esclerótica

Tratamiento:

Las gotas oftálmicas con corticosteroides ayudan a reducir la inflamación. Algunas veces, las pastillas de corticosteroides se toman por vía oral. En algunos casos, se pueden utilizar antinflamatorios no esteroides (AINES) más nuevos.

Si la escleritis es causada por una enfermedad subyacente, puede ser necesario el tratamiento de esa enfermedad.

Expectativas (pronóstico):

La afección puede reaparecer, pero suele responder al tratamiento. La escleritis se debe diferenciar de otras formas de inflamación que son menos severas, como la epiescleritis.

El trastorno subyacente asociado con la escleritis puede ser grave y puede no diagnosticarse en el momento del primer episodio. El desenlace clínico depende del trastorno específico.

Complicaciones:

  • Reaparición de la escleritis
  • Efectos secundarios de una terapia con corticosteroides prolongada
  • Sin tratamiento, puede producirse una perforación del globo ocular, llevando a pérdida de la visión
