Tratamiento:

El tratamiento de la conjuntivitis depende de la causa.

La conjuntivitis alérgica puede responder al tratamiento de las alergias o puede desaparecer por sí sola al eliminar el alergeno causante. Este tipo de conjuntivitis también se puede aliviar con la aplicación de compresas frías.

Los medicamentos con antibióticos, como las gotas oculares, son efectivos para la conjuntivitis bacteriana. La conjuntivitis viral desaparece por sí sola. Muchos médicos aplican un colirio antibiótico suave para conjuntivitis aguda con el fin de prevenir la conjuntivitis bacteriana.

La molestia que genera la conjuntivitis viral o bacteriana se puede aliviar con la aplicación de compresas tibias (paño limpio empapado en agua tibia) en los ojos cerrados.

Expectativas (pronóstico):

El pronóstico generalmente es bueno con el tratamiento.

Complicaciones:

Puede reaparecer la infección dentro de una casa o en la escuela si no se siguen las medidas preventivas.

Situaciones que requieren asistencia médica:

Solicite una cita con el médico si los síntomas duran por más de 3 ó 4 días.
