Prevención:

El reconocimiento y tratamiento oportunos del problema en los niños puede ayudar a prevenir el daño visual permanente. Se debe realizar un examen ocular completo a todos los niños por lo menos una vez entre los tres y cinco años de edad para evitar el riesgo de permitir que la ambliopía inadvertida progrese más allá de una edad en la que puede ser tratada de manera exitosa.
