Obstrucción del conducto lagrimal

Definición:

Es un bloqueo parcial o completo del sistema de conductos que transportan las lágrimas desde la superficie del ojo hasta la nariz.

Nombres alternativos:

Conducto lagrimal obstruido; Conducto nasolagrimal obstruido; Dacriostenosis.

Causas, incidencia y factores de riesgo:

Normalmente, las lágrimas drenan desde la superficie del ojo hacia la nariz por medio del conducto contorneado llamado el conducto nasolagrimal. Si este conducto se bloquea, las lágrimas se acumulan y se derraman por las mejillas, incluso cuando la persona no está llorando.

En los niños, es posible que estos conductos no estén completamente desarrollados al nacer. Este problema generalmente desaparece por sí solo. En los adultos, el conducto puede resultar afectado por una infección, una lesión o un tumor.
