Ptosis

Definición:

También llamada "párpado caído", es una condición causada por debilidad del músculo responsable de levantar el párpado, por daño a los nervios que controlan esos músculos o por flacidez de la piel que rodea los párpados superiores.

Causas, incidencia y factores de riesgo:

El párpado caído puede ser causado por el proceso normal de envejecimiento, una anomalía congénita (presente al nacer) o como resultado de una lesión o enfermedad.

Los factores de riesgo abarcan envejecimiento, diabetes , accidente cerebrovascular , síndrome de Horner , miastenia grave y un tumor cerebral u otro cáncer , los cuales pueden afectar el nervio o las reacciones musculares.
