Presbicia - Overview

Definición:

Es una afección en la cual el cristalino del ojo pierde su capacidad para enfocar, lo que dificulta el hecho de ver objetos cercanos.

Causas, incidencia y factores de riesgo:

El cristalino del ojo necesita cambiar su longitud o forma para enfocarse en objetos más pequeños u objetos que se acerquen o se alejen. Esto se denomina elasticidad del cristalino, la cual se va perdiendo lentamente a medida que uno envejece. El resultado es una disminución lenta de la capacidad del ojo para enfocar los objetos cercanos.

Las personas generalmente se percatan de esta afección alrededor de los 45 años, cuando se dan cuenta de que necesitan sostener los materiales de lectura a una mayor distancia para poder enfocarlos. La presbicia es una parte natural del proceso de envejecimiento y afecta a todas las personas.
