Conjuntivitis alérgica - Overview

Conjuntivitis de tipo alérgico

Definición:

Es una inflamación del tejido que recubre los párpados (conjuntiva) debido a una reacción a causa de sustancias alergenas como el polen y la caspa.

Causas, incidencia y factores de riesgo:

Cuando los ojos están expuestos a una sustancia a la que uno es alérgico, se libera histamina y se inflaman los vasos sanguíneos en la conjuntiva (la membrana transparente que cubre la "esclerótica" de los ojos). Rápidamente se presenta enrojecimiento del ojo, acompañado de picazón y lagrimeo.

Las alergias tienden a darse en familias, aunque no se ha reconocido un patrón hereditario evidente para ello. La incidencia de la alergia es difícil de determinar, puesto que muchas afecciones diferentes con frecuencia se agrupan bajo el término de alergia. Tenga en cuenta que frotarse los ojos hace que la situación empeore.
