Conjuntivitis de tipo alérgico

Tratamiento:

El mejor tratamiento es evitar la exposición a la causa o alergeno, lo cual, infortunadamente, no siempre es práctico. El malestar se puede aliviar con la aplicación de compresas frías en los ojos o tomando antihistamínicos por vía oral (muchos de éstos están disponibles sin receta médica).

Si las medidas de cuidados caseros no ayudan, puede ser necesario el tratamiento por parte de un médico, lo cual puede incluir:

  • Gotas antinflamatorias o antihistamínicas que se colocan dentro del ojo
  • Preparaciones de esteroides oftálmicos suaves aplicadas directamente en la superficie del ojo (para reacciones severas)
  • Gotas oftálmicas que impiden que ciertos glóbulos blancos, llamados mastocitos, liberen histamina; estas gotas se administran en combinación con antihistamínicos para casos de reacciones que van de moderadas a severas.

Expectativas (pronóstico):

El tratamiento generalmente alivia los síntomas, sin embargo, la condición tiende a reaparecer si continúa la exposición a los agentes irritantes.

Complicaciones:

No existen complicaciones serias y es común la molestia persistente.

Situaciones que requieren asistencia médica:

Solicite una cita con el médico si experimenta conjuntivitis alérgica y no reacciona favorablemente al tratamiento con medicamentos de venta libre.
