Quiste o tumor benigno de oído - Overview

Definición:

Son protuberancias o tumores no cancerosos en el oído.

Causas, incidencia y factores de riesgo:

Los quistes sebáceos son el tipo más común de quistes que se observan en el oído. Son acumulaciones protuberantes, en forma de saco, de células cutáneas muertas y aceites producidos por las glándulas sebáceas en la piel.

Estos quistes generalmente se presentan:

Detrás del oído
En el conducto auditivo externo
En el lóbulo de la oreja
En el cuero cabelludo

La causa exacta se desconoce, pero los quistes pueden aparecer cuando la producción de aceites en una glándula cutánea es más rápida que su excreción de la glándula.

Los tumores óseos benignos del conducto auditivo externo (exostosis y osteomas) pueden ser causados por un crecimiento exagerado del hueso. La exposición repetitiva al agua fría puede aumentar el riesgo de desarrollo de tumores benignos en dicho conducto.
