Amigdalitis

El médico hace una inspección de la boca y la garganta en busca de amígdalas visibles y agrandadas que por lo general están enrojecidas y pueden tener manchas blancas. Los ganglios linfáticos de la mandíbula y el cuello pueden estar agrandados y sensibles al tacto.

Un cultivo de las amígdalas puede mostrar una infección bacteriana. Se puede hacer un cultivo para verificar la presencia de estreptococos, pues ésta es la manifestación más común y peligrosa de la amigdalitis. Para obtener un diagnóstico rápido, el médico puede realizar un examen rápido para detectar estreptococos, tomando una muestra de la garganta con un hisopo.
