Pérdida auditiva relacionada con la edad; Presbiacusia

Síntomas:

La pérdida auditiva ocurre lentamente con el tiempo. Es muy difícil oír sonidos de alta frecuencia, como alguien hablando. A medida que la audición empeora, puede volverse difícil oír sonidos de tono más bajo.

Los síntomas abarcan:

  • Ciertos sonidos parecen demasiado fuertes
  • Dificultad para oír cosas en áreas ruidosas
  • Los sonidos de tono alto como "s" o "th" son difíciles de distinguir entre sí
  • Las voces de hombres son más fáciles de oír que las de las mujeres
  • Las voces de otras personas suenan refunfuñonas o enredadas
  • Zumbido en los oídos

Los síntomas de presbiacusia pueden parecerse a otras afecciones o problemas médicos. Hable con el médico si tiene cualquiera de estos síntomas.

Signos y exámenes:

Se lleva a cabo un examen físico completo para descartar afecciones que pueden causar hipoacusia. El médico usará un instrumento llamado otoscopio para observar dentro de los oídos. Algunas veces, la cera puede bloquear los conductos auditivos externos y causar hipoacusia.

A usted lo pueden remitir a un otorrinolaringólogo y un especialista en el oído (audiólogo). Las audiometrías pueden ayudar a determinar el grado de hipoacusia.
