Colesteatoma

Tratamiento:

Se necesita una cirugía para extirpar el quiste.

Expectativas (pronóstico):

Si no se extirpan, los colesteatomas suelen seguir creciendo. La cirugía generalmente funciona, pero la persona puede necesitar limpiezas de oído periódicas. Igualmente se puede necesitar una cirugía adicional si el colesteatoma reaparece.

Complicaciones:

• Sordera de un oído
• Mareo (vértigo)
• Drenaje persistente del oído
• Erosión del nervio facial (causando una parálisis facial )
• Diseminación del quiste hacia el cerebro
• Laberintitis
• Meningitis
• Absceso cerebral

Situaciones que requieren asistencia médica:

Se debe buscar asistencia médica si se presenta dolor de oído, drenaje del oído u otros síntomas, si éstos empeoran o si ocurre pérdida auditiva.
