Definición:

Es una lesión del ligamento que se encuentra en la parte externa de la rodilla.

Puede tratarse de un estiramiento, ruptura parcial o completa del ligamento.

Consideraciones generales:

El ligamento lateral externo (LLE) va desde la parte superior de la tibia (el hueso que se encuentra en la parte externa y baja de la pierna) hasta la parte de afuera de la sección inferior del fémur.

El ligamento ayuda a mantener estable el lado externo de la articulación de la rodilla.

Causas:

El ligamento lateral externo generalmente se lesiona por presión o por una lesión que empuja la articulación de la rodilla desde el interior, lo cual ocasiona tensión sobre su parte externa.
