Prevención:

Esta afección se presenta siempre al nacer, excepto para el caso de ataque cardíaco asociado con comunicación interventricular.

El consumo de alcohol y el uso de los medicamentos anticonvulsivos Depakote y Dilantin durante el embarazo han sido asociados con un aumento de la incidencia de comunicación interventricular. Aparte de evitar estas dos cosas durante el embarazo, no se conoce otra forma de prevenir esta afección.
