Pericarditis por constricción cardíaca

Tratamiento:

El objetivo del tratamiento es mejorar el funcionamiento cardíaco. Se debe identificar la causa y tratarla, lo cual puede abarcar antibióticos, medicamentos antituberculosos u otros tratamientos.

Con frecuencia, se prescriben diuréticos en pequeñas dosis para ayudarle al cuerpo a eliminar el exceso de líquido. Los analgésicos se pueden necesitar para controlar el dolor.

Se puede recomendar la disminución de la actividad para algunos pacientes.

Igualmente se puede aconsejar una dieta baja en sodio.

El tratamiento definitivo es un tipo de cirugía, llamada pericardiectomía, que implica el corte o extirpación de la cicatriz y parte de la cubierta similar a un saco del corazón.

Expectativas (pronóstico):

La pericarditis constrictiva puede ser potencialmente mortal si se deja sin tratamiento.

Sin embargo, la cirugía para tratar la afección está asociada con una alta tasa de complicaciones y generalmente se reserva para pacientes con síntomas graves.

Insuficiencia cardíaca
Edema pulmonar
Cicatrización del músculo cardíaco
