Tratamiento:

Se realiza una operación denominada procedimiento de Kasai para conectar el hígado al intestino delgado, pasando alrededor de los conductos anormales. Esta cirugía es más efectiva si se lleva a cabo antes de que el bebé tenga de 10-12 semanas de edad, sin embargo, aún puede ser necesario un trasplante de hígado .

Expectativas (pronóstico):

Una cirugía temprana mejora la supervivencia de más de un tercio de los bebés con este problema. Aún no se conocen los beneficios a largo plazo de un transplante de hígado, pero se espera que incremente la supervivencia de los pacientes.
