Enterocolitis necrosante
Definición:
Es la muerte del tejido intestinal y afecta principalmente a los bebés prematuros o recién nacidos enfermos.

Causas, incidencia y factores de riesgo:
La enterocolitis necrosante ocurre cuando el revestimiento de la pared intestinal muere y el tejido se desprende. Se desconoce la causa de este trastorno, pero se cree que la disminución del flujo sanguÃneo hacia el intestino impide que éste produzca el moco que protege el tracto gastrointestinal. Las bacterias del intestino pueden ser también un factor causante.
Los bebés que tienen un mayor riesgo de padecer esta afección abarcan:
- Bebés prematuros
- Bebés alimentados con fórmulas concentradas
- Bebés en una guarderÃa donde se ha presentado un brote
- Bebés que han recibido exanguinotransfusiones
