Los oxiuros se pueden observar en el área anal, especialmente en la noche cuando depositan sus huevos en dicha área. El médico puede pedirle a la persona llevar a cabo un examen con cinta adhesiva , en la cual se presiona un pedazo de cinta de celofán contra la piel alrededor del ano y luego se retira. Esto se debe realizar en la mañana antes de la ducha o de usar el sanitario, ya que se pueden quitar inadvertidamente los huevos al bañarse o limpiarse. El médico pega la cinta a una laminilla portaobjetos y busca los huevos utilizando un microscopio.
