Síndrome de Plummer-Vinson/membrana esofágica

Definición:

Es una anemia ferropénica crónica, dificultad para deglutir , membranas esofágicas y otras anomalías menos comunes. Las membranas esofágicas son crecimientos de tejido pequeños y delgados que bloquean parcialmente el esófago. Estas membranas causan dificultad para deglutir y tienden a localizarse en la parte media o superior del esófago.

Causas, incidencia y factores de riesgo:

Se desconoce la causa de este síndrome, pero los factores genéticos y deficiencias nutricionales pueden jugar un papel en su desarrollo. Se trata de un trastorno poco común que frecuentemente está asociado con el cáncer del esófago y la garganta.
