Enfermedades de la tiroides
Definición:
La glándula tiroides está localizada en la base del cuello a ambos lados de la parte inferior de la laringe y la parte superior de la tráquea. Esta glándula produce quÃmicos (hormonas) que ayudan al control del metabolismo del cuerpo. La hormona tiroidea también es producida en respuesta a otra hormona secretada por la hipófisis.
Existen cuatro tipos principales de enfermedad de la tiroides:
- Hipertiroidismo: demasiada hormona tiroidea
- Hipotiroidismo: muy poca hormona tiroidea
- Enfermedad tiroidea benigna (no cancerosa)
- Cáncer de tiroides
